VBS – Barnyard Roundup
During the week of August 8th – 12th, Shermans Dale and Young’s churches joined together to present Vacation Bible School (VBS). The theme for this year’s Bible School was “Barnyard Roundup” and lessons were based on the 23rd Psalm.
The VBS Team began planning this year’s Bible School in February. We began our first meeting asking ourselves what we wanted to see happen as a result of Bible School and started our discussions answering two questions: “What if?” and “Why not?” The Team concluded that we wanted to build our children’s ministry by inviting children and families from our community who don’t already attend church. Our advertising included a postcard mailing to our community, posters in local businesses, large banners placed strategically in the community, notification in the Perry County Times and on social media, and offering transportation to children who needed it.
Our attendance during the very warm week averaged 45-50 children and approximately 30 of those children were visitors from our community. Van transportation was provided for 10-12 children each evening. Dinner was served each evening from 5:15 PM – 6:00 PM and was popular among the children and the parents. The VBS program began at 6:00 PM and concluded each evening at 8:00 PM.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the VBS a success. Whether you kept VBS in your prayers; provided food or served it; taught a class or assisted; drove the van; led us in singing or in prayer; registered attendees or helped to monitor children, your support was appreciated!
